On 8th December, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint against Andrew Khoswe Zuzu a Court Clerk at Dowa Magistrate’s Court. The complaint alleged that Zuzu solicited K10, 000.00 each from a suspect and his co accused who were answering criminal charges at Dowa Magistrates Court alleging that the Magistrate would acquit them.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau instituted investigations which confirmed that Zuzu received K9, 000.00.
On 28th October, 2010, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Andrew Khoswe Zuzu. He was taken to Kasungu Magistrate’s Court. He was charged with two counts of corrupt practices by a public officer contrary to Section 24(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act and one count of abuse of office contrary to Section 25B(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.
On 12th July, 2011, Kasungu Magistrate’s Court found Andrew Khoswe Zuzu guilty of all the charges and convicted him. He was sentenced as follows:
Count 1: Two years imprisonment with hard labour
Count 2: Two years imprisonment with hard labour
Count 3: Three years imprisonment with hard labour
The sentences will run concurrently from 12th July. 2011. He is serving the sentences at Kasungu Prison.

ACB ARRESTS POLICE OFFICERS IN MANGOCHI

In 2007, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Police officers Phiri and Edward of Mangochi Police Station solicited K200, 000.00 from a suspect in order to release him on bail.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau instituted investigations into the matter which established that the two received K20, 000.00.
On 7th July, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Francisco Amoni Phiri and Ibrahim Edward.
They were taken to Mangochi Magistrate’s Court. They were each charged with two counts of corrupt practices by public officer contrary to Section 24(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act and one count of abuse of public office contrary to Section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.
They were released on bail on the following conditions:
- Deposited K5,000.00 cash each with the court
- Produced one surety each bonded at K5,000.00 cash
- To report to ACB offices in Blantyre and Mangochi Police Station respectively twice a week
They will appear in court on 11th August, 2011 for commencement of trial.

ACB ARRESTS SENIOR GROUP VILLAGE HEADMAN IN LILONGWE

The Anti-Corruption Bureau received an allegation that Mr. Gilford Dangalasi Mpinganjira (T/A Kalolo) solicited and received K45, 000.00 in order to elevate Mr. Jekeseni Kum’buka from GVH Chibungo to Senior GVH. The Bureau investigated the allegation and further established that T/A Kalolo also received K11, 000.00 in order to install Esnart Petulo as GVH Msangwe.
The Bureau further established that Mr. Menijala Josiya (Senior Group Village Headman Chakuzamutu) aided Mr. Gilford Mpinganjira to commit a corrupt practice.
On 24th June, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Menijala Josiya. He was taken to Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court. He was charged with one count of corrupt practices by public officer contrary to Section 24(1) as read with Section 35 of the Corrupt Practices Act and one count of abuse of public office contrary to Section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.
He was released on bail on the following conditions:
- Deposited with the court K10,000.00 cash
- To report to Namitete Police Unit once on Fridays
He will appear in court on 13th July, 2011, for commencement of trial.
