ACB ARRESTS POLICE OFFICERS IN KASUNGU AND MIPA EMPLOYEE IN LILONGWE
The Anti-Corruption Bureau received an allegation that Police Officers Maganga and Nasala of Nkhamenya and Chimaliro Police Units respectively, in Kasungu District were demanding K5,000.00 in order to release 20 packets of subsidized maize seed which they seized from farmers who were beneficiaries of the 2010/2011 FISP.
On 31st January, 2011 the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested James Fortunate Maganga and Ephraim Billy Nasala. They were released on bail on 1st February, 2011, by Kasungu Magistrate’s Court on the following conditions:
- Own non cash surety bond of K10,000.00 each
- They should seek permission from the Officer-in –Charge of Kasungu Police Station before leaving Kasungu
- Report to the nearest Police Unit once every week on Fridays
They will be taken to court at a time to be set by the court.
ARREST OF SUZANNA MJUWENI
On 9th December, 2010, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Suzanna Mjuweni a Manager at Malawi Investment Promotion Agency (MIPA) corruptly solicited different amounts of money totaling K170, 000.00 from a Chinese investor on the pretext that she will assist him obtain necessary documents to establish an investment at Kanengo in Liongwe.
On 11th February, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Suzanna Mjuweni. She was taken to Lilongwe Magistrate’s Court where she was released on bail on the following conditions:
- Paid K50,000.00 cash as bail bond
- Produced one surety bonded at K50,000.00 not cash
- Surrendered travel documents to the court
- She should report at Anti-Corruption Bureau offices once every fortnight on Wednesdays
She will be taken to court at a date to be set by the court.
