ACB ARRESTS CHARLES KAFATIYA

The Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Mr. Charles Kafatiya, Chairperson of FAM Sub Committee of Referees fraudulently falsified an official memo containing names of prospective FIFA referees by swapping names of referees in order to give an advantage to undeserving referees.

 On 31st January, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Mr. Charles Kafatiya. He was taken to Blantyre Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with one count each of abuse of office contrary to Section 25B (1) of the Corrupt Practices Act, forgery of official documents and uttering a false document contrary to Section 358 and 360 of the penal code respectively.

 He was released on bail on the following conditions:

 Deposited K20,000.00 cash with the court as surety

  • Produced two  reliable sureties
  • Should not leave Blantyre without permission from the ACB when traveling outside Blantyre
  • Report to ACB offices once every fortnight on Mondays

 The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case goes to court on a date to be set by the court.

 COURT FINDS LOGISTICS MANAGER FOR MARY’S MEALS WITH CASE TO ANSWER

 On 26th February, 2010, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging that Florian Michael Suwedi solicited K10, 000.00 from a driver of Blantyre Archdiocease in order for Suwedi to consider the driver for more field trips.

 On 22nd September, 2010 the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Frolian Michael Suwedi. He was taken to Blantyre Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with one count of Corrupt Practices by a private person contrary to Section 26(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act.

 On 31st January, 2011 Blantyre Magistrate’s Court found Frolian Suwedi with a case to answer on the charge of Corrupt Practices by private person.

 The case goes to court on 8th March, 2011 for defense.
